Jeg min Sjæl vil udaande med Eloahs Ord,
Med de Toner, som skabte Himmel og Jord,
Men fortummet paa Jord er Schadai Tunge:
Kun fra Tider nes Dyb mine Raab gjenrunge.

Der ruller en Strøm fra Aartusinders Grav;
I min Sjæl der henbruser et tonende Hav:
Hver Bölge er levende Daad, som bortrinder,
Hver Tone er Billed, hvert Billed er Minder.

Med et Livs-Ocean vil jeg blande in Röst,
Det mig svarer med Klang fra Profeternes Bryst;
Det oplöser min Sjæl i mildttonende Sukke,
Med de Sange, min Moder sang ved min Vugge.

Jeg fornemmer det atter, det levende Ord.--
I min Sjæl det gjenskaher Himmel og Jord, 
Med det henfarne Israels Røst vil ge sjunge 
Og med Zions Døttres San paa min Tunge.
