by Kurtas Alvinas Teodoras Mikoleitas (1874 - 1911)

Grüß Gott!
Language: German (Deutsch)
Im Staube zog ich
Die Straße entlang,
Die Füße matt,
Und das Herze krank.
Da trollte an mir
Ein Bursch vorbei,
Der schwang seinen Hut
So frank und frei:
"Grüß Gott!"

Nun horchte ich auf,
Wie das Bächlein sprang,
Was die Linde rauscht'
Und das Vöglein sang,
Was der säuselnde Wind
Trug gen Himmel empor --
Es war ein Jubel
Im vollen Chor:
"Grüß Gott!"

Da spürt' ich erst recht
Die Sonne im Feld,
Den wonnigen Mai
In der blühenden Welt;
Mein Kummer zerfloß,
Ich wußte nicht wie,
Und lauter stets jauchzt' ich
Die Melodie:
"Grüß Gott!"

Confirmed with Deutsche Dichtung, achzehnter Band, ed. by Karl Emil Franzos, Berlin: F. Fontane & Co., 1895, page 94.
