by Leberecht Blücher Dreves (1816 - 1870)

Vor Jena
Language: German (Deutsch)
Auf den Bergen die Burgen,
Im Thale die Saale,
Die Mädchen im Städtchen
Einst Alles wie heut'!
Ihr werthen Gefährten,
Wo seid Ihr zur Zeit mir,
Ihr lieben, geblieben?
Ach, alle zerstreut!

Die Einen, sie weinen,
Die Andern, sie wandern,
Die Dritten noch mitten
Im Wechsel der Zeit,
Auch Viele am Ziele,
Zu den Todten entboten,
Verdorben, gestorben
In Lust [oder]1 Leid.

Ich alleine, der Eine,
Schau' wieder hernieder
Zur Saale im Thale,
Doch traurig und stumm;
Eine Linde im Winde,
Die wiegt sich und biegt sich,
Rauscht schaurig und traurig,
Ich weiß wohl: warum!
