Gegrüßt sei, weißer Blütenstern, ich geh' dir nicht vorbei, ich frage dich so gern, so gern nach meines Liebsten Treu'. Zu weiter Ferne hat gelenkt er seinen Wanderstab; sag', Blümchen, ob er mein gedenkt, ob treu er bis zum Grab. „Er liebt mich nicht!“ Flieg, Blättchen, fort, mag dich der Wind verweh'n, und mag ein and'res, süßes Wort mir aus dem Stern ersteh'n! „Er liebt mich, liebt mich, liebt mich nicht, er liebt mich wahr und heiß!“ So jubelt laut, so zeigt und spricht das Blättchen zart und weiß. Flieg, Blättchen, hin zum Liebsten mein, bring ihm die Kunde hin, sag', dass auch ich auf ewig sein in heißer Liebe bin!

All hail to thee, white blooming star, I cannot pass thee by; Longing to question from afar my lover's truth am I. To distant lands hath wandered he whom all my soul doth crave: Say, flow'ret, if he thinks of me and true is to the grave. "He loves me not!" Hence, leaflet, blow away upon the wind, another, sweeter word I know the star can surely find. "He loves me, loves me, loves me not, he loves with ardor sure!" Thus doth proclaim my joyous lot Yon leaflet soft and pure. Hence, leaflet, to my lover fly, these tidings bear with speed. Tell him, I too am his for aye with warm true love indeed.
