by (Stephanie) Hélène Swarth (1859 - 1941)

Avondlied
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)
Rustig, op den gladden vijver,
zwemmen zilverreine zwanen.
Hagelblanke hagedoren
spreidt zijn geuren langs de lanen.

Plechtig zeilen witte wolken,
waar de kimmen blozend blauwen.
Statig stappend langs de paden,
pronken perelblanke pauwen.

Benglend met haar fijne klokjes,
lonkt het lelietje van dalen;
De anemoon ontvouwt haar kelkje,
't madeliefje schiet haar stralen

Over bleeke rozen fladdren
witte vlinders heen en weder.
Tusschen bevend berkenloover
koert een sneeuwen duive teeder.

Door de dreven dwalen droomend
blanke maagden en, ginds verre,
Tintelt, eenzaam, eeuwig zwijgend,
de onbereikbre liefdesterre
