Am dunkeln Hain am Meergestad',
da wartet dein ein flinker Knab'!
O Holder mein, o weile nicht,
des Mondes Schein dir gibt schon Licht!

Durchs dunkle Riff am Felsenrand
fährt er das Schiff mit starker Hand.
O Holder mein, o weile nicht,
des Mondes Schein noch gibt dir Licht!

Des Sturmes Nacht bricht plötzlich ein,
der Wolken Nacht birgt Mondesschein.
O Holder mein, o weile nicht,
des Mondes Schein schon birgt sein Licht!

Die Brandung braust zum Schloss hinauf,
das Schifflein saust im Sturmeslauf.
O Holder mein, du weilest lang',
der Blitze Schein macht mich so bang!

Der Wellen Macht treibt's nach dem Riff,
es schellt, es kracht, es sinkt das Schiff!
"O Holder mein!", ruft sie ihm zu,
"ich bin nun dein in Grabesruh'!"
