possibly by Heinrich Stieglitz (1801 - 1849)

Heimweh
Language: German (Deutsch)
Grüßt mich heut' doch alles Leben
gar so heimlich, traut und still,
dass mein Herz von heißem Beben
in der Brust zerspringen will.
Alles mahnet mich an dorten
in melodischem Gesang
mit unausgesproch'nen Worten,
mit verwandter Töne Klang.

Selbst die lieben Toten bringen
mir so trauten Heimatgruß,
dass ich all den süßen Klängen
meine Brust verschließen muss.
Ach, es wird doch einmal enden,
dieses bange Herzensweh',
einmal wird doch Ruhe spenden
ew'ger Heimat sel'ge Näh'.
