Der Herbst
Language: German (Deutsch)
Die Blätter fallen nieder,
Der Sturm weht sie herab,
In andrer Pracht der Farben
Zieht jedes in sein Grab.

Du blickst so traurig nieder
Wie sie zu Fuß dir fällt;
Ist's nicht der alte Frühling,
Der sich sein Haus bestellt?

Der seine treuen Diener
So reich beschenkt entläßt,
Und Kraft und Liebe sammelt
Zum Auferstehungsfest?

Setz deine Stab nur weiter,
Blick stolz umher und frei!
Der Frühling macht die Blätter,
Die Blätter nicht den May.

Confirmed with Musenalmanach, zweiter Jahrgang, ed. by Amadeus Wendt, Leipzig: Weidmann'sche Buchhandlung, 1831, pages 269 - 270.
