Ô Dieu des Blancs! toi que j'implore,
Qu'a donc l'enfant de mon amour?
Depuis hier, il dort encore,
Et voici déjà le grand jour.

Je n'ose aller dans ma corbeille
Recueillir les fruits de nos champs.
J'attends que mon enfant s'éveille,
mais hélas, il dort bien longtemps.

Pour le détourner de son rêve,
J'ai déjà tenté mais en vain,
Tandis que ma main le soulève,
D'offrir à sa lèvre mon sein.

Ah! faites que mon fils sommeille.
Grand Esprit, j'espère et j'attends.
J'attends que mon enfant s'éveille.
Mais hélas, il dort bien longtemps.
