by P. Johannes Baptista Diel S. J. (1843 - 1876)

Gestern tönte in der Straße
Language: German (Deutsch)
 Gestern tönte in der Straße
Gar so wohlbekannter Sang;
Von dem armen  Schweizerbuben,
Den verlockt des Alphorns Klang.

Gestern schaute ich am  Himmel
Wunderbare Sternenpracht,
Solch ein Glitzern, solch ein Funkeln
Wie in deutscher Winternacht.

Und das Lied griff in die Seele,
Und an jedem gold'nen Stern
Hing das Aug' wie festgebannet:
Liebe Heimath, liegst so fern!
