by Hermann Rossel (1820 - 1846)

Abendgebet
Language: German (Deutsch)
Des Tags verworrenes Getümmel
Rauscht in der Ferne dumpf und sacht;
Ein andres Reich geht auf am Himmel,
Das wunderbare Reich der Nacht.
Du rufst der Nacht im Sternenkranze,
Du deckst das Thal mit Mondenruh';
Deck', Vater!  auch mit Himmelsglanze
Zwei müd' geweinte Auge zu.

Die Welten gehn mit bitterm Weinen,
Mit wilder Lust, mit Streit und Brand;
Du aber winkest -- und sie scheinen
Beruhig in der Menschen Land.
Der Du den Welten Trost beschieden,
Du großer Tröster allerwärts!
O, hülle Du in Deinen Frieden
Auch ein gequältes Menschenherz!
