by Eugène Scribe (1791 - 1861)

Le Napolitain
Language: French (Français)
Pauvre Napolitain, la mer est belle,
cherche au pays lointain meilleur destin;
au bord Américain l'or etincelle
et promet au marin riche butin.
Voilà ma nacelle,
partons soudain !
     (Solo:) Moi quitter l'Italie
             pour un climat nouveau ?
             Le ciel de la patrie
             est toujours le plus beau !

Le Vésuve en son sein souvent recèle
même en un jour serein trépas certain.
Si ton regard malin logne une belle,
crains le fer inhumain d'un spadassin.
Voilà ma nacelle etc.

Intrépide marin, beauté nouvelle
va t'offrir en chemin attrait divin ;
vers ce pays charmant qui te rappelle
tu reviendras gaîment, riche et content !
Voilà ma nacelle etc.
