by Anton Prokesch-Osten (1795 - 1876)

Du bist, o Herr, mein Stern bei Nacht
Language: German (Deutsch)
Du bist, o Herr, mein Stern bei Nacht,
Du meine Sonn' am Tage,
Du meine Zuversicht und Macht,
Was ich auch immer wage.
Mit Dir zieh' ich durch Wüstenei
Getrosten Muthes ohne Scheu.

Gib meinem Arme Sehnenkraft,
Und meinem Säbel Treue,
Auf daß, bevor mein Will' erschlafft,
Kein Feind sich meiner freue.
Stell' Du des Gegners Brust mir bloß,
Und leit' mein Aug' und mein Geschoß!

Gib meinem Rosse sichern [Schritt]1,
Wenn ich am Abgrund hänge,
Und sende Deinen Engel mit
Durch Moor und Waldesenge.
Sey Du im zeichenlosen Sand'
Mein Fingerzeig und meine Hand!

Schenk' mir der heil'gen Lüfte Weh'n,
Und quellenreichen Schatten,
Eh' Kopf und Herz in Gluth vergeh'n,
Und Fuß und Aug' ermatten;
Und laß, hüllt mich der Schlummer ein,
Im Traum mich in der Heimath seyn!
