Nachtbild
Language: German (Deutsch)
Leise atmend weilt die Nacht
Und die Sterne flimmern,
Nur ein Mutterherz noch wacht
Bei der Lampe Schimmern.

Süße Nacht, o Mutter Nacht!
Mit den sansten Armen
Hüllest uns in Schlummer sacht,
Träumen und Erbarmen!

Rastlos drängt der Tag die Kraft
Ungezähmter Triebe,
Was in dir besorgt noch schafft,
Ist allein die Liebe.

Fern im Osten flammend steigt
Morgenrots Entfachen —
Müd' das Haupt die Mutter neigt —
Tausende nun erwachen.

Confirmed with the anthology Deutscher Dichterwald. Lyrische Anthologie von Georg Scherer, Dreizehnte Auflage, Stuttgart und Leipzig, Deutsche Verlags-Anstalt, 1887, page 392.
