Solen skinner i Naboens Gaard, Husene ere saa lave,
Gaarden har Plads til en Møding kun og en trealens Have.
Haven er i sin egen Maneer, den har slet ingen Gange,
Men den eier een Stikkelsbær-Busk, der er saa god, som saa mange!
Mutter i Dag har næstendeels skjult baade Møding og Have,
Thi sine Sengklæder, paa et Stillads, har hun i Solen, den brave!
Ungerne sole sig ogsaa lidt, ligge paa Dyne og Pude,
Hver har i Haanden et Smørrebrød, som de fortære derude;
Smørret smelter i Solens Brand, -- Søvnen over dem daler -
Gaardhanen stikker sit Hoved frem, bryster sig stolt og galer.1

Le soleil brille dans la cour du voisin, les maisons sont si basses,
le jardin n'a de place que pour le fumier et un enclos de trois aunes.
L'enclos a une forme particulière, il n'a tout simplement pas d'allée,
mais il possède un groseillier, qui est aussi bon que les autres.
Aujourd'hui la mère a dissimulé presque complètement l'enclos et le fumier
car ses draps y sont étendus sur un échafaudage que la brave femm a mis au soleil !
Les enfants aussi prennent le soleil, allongés sur les couettes et les édredons,
chacun a dans la main une tartine beurrée qu'ils dévorent dehors ;
le beurre fond sous l'ardeur du soleil, -- le sommeil descend sur eux,
le coq de la basse-cour avance sa tête, gonfle fièrement son jabot et lance son cocorico.1
