Die Sonne geht hinunter
Roth hinterm Bergeswall;
Her von der Waldkapelle
Tönt süßer Glockenhall. 

Es ruht das stille Dörfchen
Zu meinen Füß hold,
Von Klängen reich umflossen
Und wie gefaßt in Gold. 

In's Herz mir selber leuchtet
Der milde Abendschein; 
Mir in die Seele läuten
Die Glocke sanft hinein.

ach, unter jenem Steine da liegt mein liebster Schatz.
Ich bin so trüb und traurig, so fried - und freudeleer,
