Das Vöglein singt, so gut es kann 
Und wie es bei ihm Brauch; 
Die Amsel singt im Föhrenwald, 
Die Nachtigall im Strauch.  

Die Lerche singt am Himmelszelt, 
Bis sanft der Tag verschied,  
Und weil der Staar nicht singen kann, 
So pfeift er sich sein Lied. 

Drum singt und musizirt dazu, 
Daß Feld und Thal erklingt. 
Das ist fürwahr ein armer Schelm, 
Der nie ein Liedchen singt.
