6 Gesänge für Sopran oder Tenor mit Pianoforte , opus 39

by Fr. Hartmann

1. Sag' an, o Alter!  [sung text not yet checked]

Language: German (Deutsch)
Sag' an, o Alter! Wem gräbst du dies Grab?
Was lockt so bittere Thränen dir ab?
Du grubst und gräbst ja der Gräber so viel!
übst stets du dein Amt mit so weichem Gefühl?

Wohl hab' ich gegraben der Gräber schon viel,
doch keins mit so bitterem Schmerzgefühl;
mein Töchterlein starb mir, mein einziges Kind;
ihm Grab und Thränen gewidmet sind.

Gar geräumig machst du das Grab! wozu?
Auf dass noch ein Müder darinnen ruh';
so des morschen Gebäudes Stütze brach,
sinkt bald das morsche Gebäude nach!

Und eh' heran kam die dritte Nacht,
zwei Todte selbander zue Ruh' man bracht';
Wer konnten die Zwei wohl anders sein
als der Vater und sein lieb Töchterlein?
