Da regt sich's allzumal;
Die [muntren]7 Vögel singen,
Die Quelle rauscht [in's]8 Tal;
Und freudig [schallt]9 das Lustgetön:

[Wie sich die Bäume]10 wiegen
Im lieben Sonnenschein!
Wie hoch die Vögel fliegen,
Ich möchte hinterdrein;
Möcht' jubeln über Tal und Höh'n:

Im Himmel und auf Erden
Wird es so still, so still,
Weil nach des Tags Beschwerden
Die Welt nun schlafen will.

Des Tages letztes Grüßen
Geht von den Bergeshöhn:
"Du Welt zu meinen Füßen
Schlaf wol1, und träume schön!"

Sie lächelt wie im Traume,
Ihr Herz schlägt gar so sacht;
Und hoch im blauen Raume
Da halten die Sterne Wacht.

Hoch in den dunklen Bäumen
Singt noch ein leiser Hauch --
Ach Gott, nun laß mich träumen,
Nun laß mich schlafen auch!
