Zwei geistliche Lieder , opus 24

by Lothar Kempter (1844 - 1918)

1. Maria's Schmerz  [sung text not yet checked]

Language: German (Deutsch)
Unterm Kreutze stand [die Mutter]1,
Als Er sprach: es ist vollbracht!
Da verhüllte rings das Erdreich
Voll Entsetzen sich in Nacht.

In den Höhen rauscht's -- der Vorhang
Reißt im Tempel laut entzwei;
Aus der Tiefe drohnt's -- die Todten
Kommen aus der Gruft herbei;

Und die Freunde, die ihn liebten,
Rufen wild den Schmerz sich zu; --
Mutter mit der stillern Thräne!
Mutter!  was empfandest Du?
