Waldesrauschen winkt der Sonne Gluthen
zitternd noch die letzten Grüße zu,
Vogelsang in duft'ger Bäume Fluthen
wiegt mich leise ein zur Abendruh.
Sinnend naht die Nacht zur stillen Feier,
schweigend ruht die Welt im duft'gen Schleier.

Sieh da schwebt auf ihren dunklen Schwingen
die Vergangenheit zu mir herauf,
zeigt der Menschen Träumen mir und Ringen,
ewig fruchtlos schwankend ab und auf.
Leise klingt es in den Abendwinden:
Sei getrost, auch du wirst Ruhe finden!
