Note: According to Virgil Thomson: His Life and Music by Kathleen Hoover and John Cage, published 1959 by Sagamore Press, the author of this text is Herminie, Madame la Duchesse de Rohan (1853-1926), née Herminie de la Brousse de Verteillac ; however, according to notes in Virgil Thomson: The State of Music & Other Writings, Library of America, 2016, page 632, the author shown as the Duchesse de Rohan is indicated to be Marie de Rohan (1600-1679), known as Madame Chevreuse. An extra confusing twist is that in the index of this latter book, the only entry under the letter 'R' is "Rohan, duchesse de (Hélène de Liencourt), who is neither of these two people.
