La lune pâle aime a rèver au bois dormant
Sa lumière cendrée inonde le feuillage 
Et de la voûte bleue ou son disque voyage, 
Un long ruisseau de lait coule paisiblement.
Mélancolique et nonchalante souveraine,
Seule, dans le mystère et la sérénité,
Elle suit à pas lents son chemin argenté,
Et dans la blanche nuit répand sa blanche traîne
On a dit, autrefois, que son sourire ami frôlait 
Endymion sur la mousse endormi
Et que sa pâleur tendre était une caresse.
Depuis, tous les reveurs et tous les amoureux
Sentent, o Lune pale, un frisson de tendresse
