Of ek jou liefhet? … Hoe vra jy, wanneer
my oë van die antwoord vol is, weer
dieselfde vraag so twyfelloos en teer? 

Toe Christus met die derde haangekraai
sy blik vol stil verwyt na Petrus draai,
wie kon die later vraag en antwoord raai?

Drie maal het hy gevra … Daar was alleen
die één gebroke antwoord oor vir een
wat in die nag oor eie verraad moes ween.

Wanneer ek elke roekelose eed
van ewig trou en liefde reeds vergeet
het, sal ek nog soos Petrus sê: Jy weet.
