4 Lieder nach Texten von Hermann Hesse

Song Cycle by Wolfgang Nening (b. 1966)

1. Kleiner Gesang  [sung text not yet checked]

Language: German (Deutsch)
Regenbogengedicht,
Zauber aus sterbendem Licht,
Glück wie Musik zerronnen,
Schmerz im Madonnengesicht,
Daseins bittere Wonnen...

Blüten vom Sturm gefegt,
Kränze auf Gräber gelegt,
Heiterkeit ohne Dauer,
Stern, der ins Dunkel fällt:
Schleier von Schönheit und Trauer
Über dem Abgrund der Welt.

Text Authorship:

  • by Hermann Hesse (1877 - 1962), "Kleiner Gesang", written 1962

2. Müder Abend   [sung text not yet checked]

Language: German (Deutsch)
[Abendwindes Lallen]1
Klagt erstickt im Laub,
Schwere Tropfen fallen
Einzeln in den Staub.

Aus den mürben Mauern
Moos und Farne quellen,
Alte Leute kauern
Schweigend auf [den Schwellen.]2

Krumme Hände lasten
Still auf [steifen]3 Knien,
Geben sich dem Rasten
Und Verwelken hin.

Überm Friedhof flügeln
Krähen [schwer]4 und groß.
Auf den flachen Hügeln
Wuchert Farn und Moos.

3. Wache Nacht   [sung text not yet checked]

Language: German (Deutsch)
Bleich blickt die föhnige Nacht herein,
Der Mond im Wald will untergehn.
Was zwingt mich doch mit banger Pein
Zu wachen und hinauszusehn?

Ich hab geschlafen und geträumt;
Was hat mir mitten in der Nacht
Gerufen und so bang gemacht,
Als hätt ich Wichtiges versäumt?

Am liebsten liefe ich vom Haus,
Vom Garten, Dorf und Lande fort
Dem Rufe nach, dem Zauberwort,
Und weiter und zur Welt hinaus.

4. Kleiner Knabe  [sung text not yet checked]

Language: German (Deutsch)
Hat man mich gestraft,
Halt ich meinen Mund,
Weine mich in Schlaf,
Wache auf gesund.

Hat man mich gestraft,
Heißt man mich den Kleinen,
Will ich nicht mehr weinen,
Lache mich in Schlaf.

Große Leute sterben,
Onkel, Großpapa,
Aber ich, ich bleibe
Immer, immer da.

Text Authorship:

  • by Hermann Hesse (1877 - 1962), "Kleiner Knabe", written 1960
