Estimo les dones que fa milers d’anys foren amades i cantades pels poetes. Estimo les ciutats on les muralles buides porten el dol de llinatges reials dels temps antics. Estimo les ciutats que seran bastides quan ningú més d’avui viurà a la terra. Estimo les dones – esveltes, esplèndides, que encara no han nascut i resten a les entranyes dels anys. Un dia, amb la pal·lidesa d’una estrella, llur beutat igualarà la beutat dels meus somnis.

Tard al vespre camino pel camí polsegós, les ombres dels murs es projecten de biaix, i a través dels circells de les vinyes veig la llum de la lluna damunt el rierol i el camí. Cançons, que antany havia cantat, torno a cantussejar en veu baixa, les ombres d’innombrables caminades creuen la meva ruta. El vent i la neu i la calor de l’estiu de tants anys ressonen cap a mi, les nits d’estiu i els blaus llamps, les tempestes i els fatics del viatge. Bronzejat i sadoll de l’esplet d’aquest món, em sento atret a caminar endavant fins que el meu camí s’enfonsi en la foscúria.
