In welchem Garten?
Sie sind erlesen schon,
Denk' es, o Seele!
Auf deinem Grab zu wurzeln
Und zu wachsen.

Zwei schwarze Rößlein weiden
Auf der Wiese,
Sie kehren heim zur Stadt
In [muntern]1 Sprüngen.
Sie werden schrittweis gehn
Mit deiner Leiche;
[Vielleicht, vielleicht noch eh']2
An ihren Hufen
Das Eisen los wird,
Das ich blitzen sehe!

Un petit avet verdeja, on,
qui ho sap! al bosc,
i un roser, qui pot dir
a quin jardí?
Ells ja han estat escollits,
pensa-ho, oh ànima,
per arrelar a la teva tomba
i créixer.

Dos cavallets negres pasturen
a la prada,
tornen cap a casa, a la ciutat,
saltironant vivaçment.
Ells aniran portant el pas
amb la teva despulla;
potser, potser, fins i tot abans
que de llurs peülles
caigui la ferradura
que ja veig llambrejar!
