O könnt' ich [Vögelein]1, mit dir ziehn,
Wir wollten über die Berge fliehn,
Durch die blauen, schönen Lüfte zumal,
[Uns]2 baden im warmen Sonnenstrahl.
Die Erd' ist eng, der Himmel weit;
Die Erd' ist arm, hat nichts als Leid;
Der Himmel ist [reich]3,  hat nichts, als Freud'.
Das [Vögelein]1 hat sich geschwungen schon
Durchwirbelnd die Luft mit [süßem]4 Ton,
O [Vögelein]1, daß dich Gott behüt'!
