Nachtgedanken
NOTE: the footnotes have been removed from this text; return to general view
Language: German (Deutsch)
Stille Nacht, du schwebst hernieder,
Senkest dich auf Tal und Flur,
Und dein dunkeles Gefieder
Fächelt Ruhe der Natur;
Nur die Geister herber Schmerzen,
Von des Lebens Sturm bewegt,
Schlafen nicht im wunden Herzen,
Wachen, bis es nicht mehr schlägt.

Schweiget, schweiget, ihr Gesänge,
Sanfter Nachhall einst'ger Lust,
Tönet nicht wie Harfenklänge
In der Schmerz-erfüllten Brust;
Fliehet, farbenreiche Bilder,
Aus des Busens tiefsten Raum,
Nein, nicht fliehet, aber milder
Zeigt euch im Erinnrungstraum.
