Es steht ein Haus so geisterhaft So bleich bestrahlt vom Mond; Ich weiß, wer dies Gespenst von Stein, Nicht minder bleich, bewohnt. Ein Mädchen, hold, doch geisterblaß, Mein Liebchen wohnt darin, Und liegt vielleicht nun eben matt Von bangem Traum dahin. Und um die Ecke biegt ein Mann, Und summt ein Lied für sich, Und blickt so blaß auf's blasse Haus, Der blasse Mann -- bin ich. O lass' es, Liebchen, diesem Haus Uns danken tiefbewegt, Daß vor der Welt es uns zu lieb Auch uns're Farbe trägt!
