by Charles XV, King of Sweden and Norway (1826 - 1872)
Translation by Gottfried von Leinburg (1825 - 1893)

Die Nacht
NOTE: the footnotes have been removed from this text; return to general view
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Swedish (Svenska)
Mondschein glänzt hernieder hold,
tropft herab wie flüssig Gold
von den Blütenzweigen;
Klänge durch die Lüfte weh'n,
die wie eine Botschaft geh'n
durch das nächt'ge Schweigen.

Sel'ger Frieden! O wie schön,
solchem Ton von Himmelshöh'n
ahnungsvoll zu lauschen!
Wohl an ihm mit Sehnsuchtsschmerz
mag das sturmverschlag'ne Herz
nächtlich sich berauschen!
