Das arme Kind
Language: German (Deutsch)
Warum ich traurig bin?
Fragt ihr danach?

Hab' es schon oft gesagt,
hab' es schon oft geklagt,
klopft' an gar manche Tür,
niemand, ach, öffnet mir,
keiner, der hören mag!
Warum ich traurig bin?
Fragt ihr danach?

Weiß nicht, woher ich kam,
„Heimatlos“ ist mein Nam'!
Weiß nicht, wo Vater blieb,
weiß nichts von Mutterlieb';
weine d'rum Nacht und Tag.
Warum ich traurig bin?
Fragt ihr danach?

„Bettelstab“ heißt mein Freund,
Menschen sind all' mir feind,
achten mich gleich dem Hund,
rufen mich Vagabund!
Still trag' ich solche Schmach!
Warum ich traurig bin?
Fragt ihr danach?

„Bettelbrot“ heißt mein Mahl,
Feld ist mein Freudensaal,
Waldlaub ist Lagerstatt,
d'rauf sink' ich todesmatt,
tränenmüd', hungerschwach!
Warum ich traurig bin?
Fragt ihr danach?
