Frühlingssehnsucht
O Frühling, was willst du auch säumen?
Was zauderst du länger, zu kommen?
O komm denn, o komme, du herrliche Zeit!

The trees have long been looking forward to blossoming,
The meadows looking forward to growing green along the sunny acclivity.
Oh springtime, why do you wish to delay?
The birdlets are already singing and rejoicing in chorus,
The violet is harkening out from the grove,
Harkening out with blissful dreams.
The west winds have long looked forward to fluttering,
How yearningly anxious is the soughing in the tree-tops!
Ah, springtime, have you not perceived it?
From the cloud canopy the sun is already
Smiling so beautifully down upon forest and field,
Why do you still hesitate to arrive?
The people have long looked forward to rejoicing,
In their hearts with a blissful urging there are
Already resounding the old, joyful lays!
Oh come then, oh come, you glorious time!
Oh come then, oh come! the world is ready
To greet you, springtime, and to praise you!
