Der Abend sank herein
Language: German (Deutsch)
Der Abend sank herein;
Die Glocken brausen wieder
In's weite All hinein,
Wie holde Himmelslieder
Ich bin so gar allein.

Die Glocken hab' ich lieb, --
Ein theures Angedenken,
Das von der Mutter blieb.
Den Blick empor zu lenken! . . .
Die Glocken hab' ich lieb.

Die Glocken hör' ich gern.
Wenn Sonntags sie erklangen,
So hell von nah und fern
Dann ist sie hingegangen
Zu beten vor dem Herrn.

Dann glühte lieb und lind
Verklärung auf den Wangen
Die nun erblichen sind!
Dann ist sie hingegangen
Zu beten für ihr Kind.

O heil'ge Opferglut!
Von ihrem Blick behütet,
Wie war ich fromm und gut!
Wie hat der Sturm gewüthet,
Seit sie im Grabe ruht.

Ich bin so gar allein!
Auf fernen Hügeln funkelt
Der letzte Abendschein.
Die Tiefe schweigt und dunkelt,
Es bricht die Nacht herein.
