Meines Lebens holder, schöner Mai?
Eh ich noch mir einen Kranz gewunden,
Ist die Zeit der Blumen schon vorbei?

War es das, was ich von Freuden träumte,
Als aus ihrem goldenen Pokal
Lust und Fülle mir entgegenschäumte,
In der Jugendsonne hellem Strahl?

Laß doch, Herz, dein ungestümes Pochen!
Lächle ruhig, stürmendes Gesicht!
Blumen wie wir sie im Traum gebrochen,
Solche Blumen blühn auf Erden nicht.
