Freudig gern dem Vaterland!

Joyfully, gladly to your homeland!
A thousand hearts, a thousand flames
Flare up lovingly together,
Glow as a single sacrificial fire
For you, beloved homeland!
Blaze ever, holy glow,
In the blood of free men!
Though in the pains of death
May break many a glowing heart,
There where a holy light is extinguished
A new heart ever blossoms.
This glow in our breast
Is the loftiest joy of the Swiss.
Protect the rights of the homeland,
Keep tyrannical powers far away,
Steel men's courageous swords,
Make them worthy of holy freedom!
Therefore, brethren, hearts and hands,
Dedicate them to your homeland!
