by Elisabeth Pauline Ottilie Luise zu Wied, Prinzessin (1843 - 1916), as Carmen Sylva

Das Trauergewand
Language: German (Deutsch)
Ach! bald mußt Du das schwarze Kleid
Mit einem hellen tauschen,
Muß Seide Dich umrauschen,
Du darfst in all der Fröhlichkeit
Nicht Deinem Kummer lauschen.

Wie thöricht, an ein schwarz Gewand
Sich also anzuhängen,
Als könnt in frohen Klängen,
Ein lustig flatternd helles Band
Dein Denken je verdrängen.

Du trägst durch wechselvolle Zeit,
Durch arbeitsheiße Jahre,
Des Herzens Todtenbahre,
Und statt dem schwarzen Trauerkleid,
Die stillen, weißen Haare.
