by Holger Henrik Herholdt Drachmann (1846 - 1908)

Der blev stille i Stuen
Language: Danish (Dansk)
Der blev stille i Stuen,
da Festen var endt;
hvor hun havde sunget,
stod et tavst Instrument.
Der gemte sig slumrende
Toner deri;
hun kunde dem vække.
Nu var det forbi.

I Stagen stod Lysene
næsten brændt ned,
et vaklende Skær over
Glassene gled.
Her suged dine Læbe
den livfulde Glød;
jeg føler kun Glassets
forstenede Død.

O kunde Du komme
tilbage igen!
Jeg stillede Vinen
paa Bordene hen;
jeg lyste med Fakler
vor natlige Fest,
jeg satte Dig højbords,
mig selv som din Gæst.

Saa sang Du til Tonernes
bølgende Slag.
Jeg sad for din Fod, til det
gryed ad Dag.
Saa bar mine favnende
Arme Dig hjem, --
hvis ikke Du døde
forinden i dem.

Der blev stille i Stuen.
Festen var endt.
Der stod kun et støvet,
Forstemt Instrument.
Som Laag for en Kiste
smak Klappen i...
O Gud være lovet:
Forbi, Forbi!
