by Karl Joseph Simrock (1802 - 1876)

Eh' Gott das Weib gebildet
Language: German (Deutsch)
Eh' Gott das Weib gebildet,
Der ganzen Schöpfung Preis,
Da waren alle Rosen
Wie Lilien licht und weiß.

Doch als des Weibes Busen
Die Rosen überbot,
Da schämten sich die Rosen
Und wurden rosenroth.

Dann schuf er ihre Wange
Der Morgenröthe gleich;
Da wurden viel der Rosen
Vor Ärger wieder bleich.

Ist an den weißen Rosen,
Die in den Gärten stehn,
Von ihrer frühern Röthe
Nicht noch die Spur zu sehn?
