by Uffo Daniel Horn (1817 - 1860)

Der Gondolier
Language: German (Deutsch)
Die Wogen schlagen schäumend
der Gondel blanke Wand,
der Gondolier hält träumend
das Ruder in der Hand.

Er führt zum Traualtare
die Dame tief betrübt,
die schon seit manchem Jahre
der arme Schiffer liebt!

Und wie die Glocken schallen,
da zuckt er in die Höh',
und seine Tränen fallen
wie Perlen in die See.

Ihn treibt's hinab zu springen,
noch einen Blick nach ihr;
die Grabesglocken klingen
dem armen Gondolier.
