View text with all available footnotesConfirmed with Zeitung für die elegante Welt, no. 57; Dienstag, 12 Mai 1801, in Berlin, as an insert printed between pages 464 and 465 of music - the Theme from the "Theme and Variations" composed as the second movement of Joseph Wölfl's Piano Sonata, Op. 6 no. 2. The piano music had been published in 1799 in Augsburg by Gombert &. Co., and can be viewed (piano solo only) at Petrucci Music Library. It is titled "Romanze nach dem Don Quixote".
The poem also appears in Deutsches Liederlexicon, ed. by August Härtel, Philipp Reclam Jr., 1865, Song no. 83, page 57, under the title "Meerfahrt", with changes described in the footnotes below for DL.
