L'angélique échanson des couchants violets
Penchant l'urne du rêve emplit l'or vieux des coupes.
Des blancheurs d'ailes vers le ciel volent par troupes
Le noir des jardins s'ouvre aux mystères seulets.

La nuit vient. Des pêcheurs chargés de lourds filets
Passent ; de jeunes voix vont s'éloignant, en groupes,
Et l'étang de saphyr, où dorment les chaloupes,
Met son manteau de lune et sort ses feux follets.

Tout le firmament brille à travers les ramures.
Des pétales mourants tombent des roses mûres :
La fleur triste des soirs divins vient de s'ouvrir...

Mon âme est un velours douloureux que tout froisse,
Et je sens en mon cœur lourd d'ineffable angoisse
Je ne sais quoi de doux, qui voudrait bien mourir...
