Cantico de la esposa
 (Sung text for setting by J. Rodrigo)

Esposa:
  ¿Adónde te escondiste,
amado, y me dejaste con gemido?
Como el ciervo huiste,
habiéndome herido;
salí tras ti, clamando, y ya eras ido.

  Pastores, los que fuerdes
allá, por las majadas, al otero,
si por ventura vierdes
a aquél que yo más quiero,
decidle que adolezco, peno y muero.

  Buscando mis amores,
iré por esos montes y riberas;
ni cogeré las flores,
ni temeré las fieras,
y pasaré los fuertes y fronteras.

(Pregunta a las Criaturas)
  ¡Oh bosques y espesuras,
plantadas por la mano del amado!
¡Oh prado de verduras,
de flores esmaltado,
decid si por vosotros ha pasado!

Cantico della sposa
 (Sung text translation for setting by J. Rodrigo)
 See original
Language: Italian (Italiano)  after the Spanish (Español)
Dove ti sei nascosto , Amore mio,
lasciandomi in pianto?
Come il cervo sei fuggito
Dopo avermi ferito;
Invocandoti ti ho seguito, ma già te n'eri andato

Pastori,chiunque voi siate,
Se per caso vedete
là tra i greggi sul colle
Colui che più di tutti amo,
Ditegli che mi struggo, e soffro e muoio.

Cercando i miei amori
Andrò per questi monti e questi lidi;
Fiori non coglierò
Né avrò paura di fiere,
E varcherò roccaforti e frontiere.

Oh boschi e selve
Germogliati per mano del mio Amore!
Oh verde prato
Tutto di fiori smaltato
Ditemi se tra voi è passato !
