Hoort hoe die twee waterleikes,
  vluchtig vlietende onder 't gers,
over zand en over keikes
  nooit van loopen zijn ze wers:
hobbel-dobbel-drets- en drevelend,
krinkele winkele weg, al krevelen,
  nu alhier en dan aldaar,
  loopen ze... ai 'k en weet nie' waar.

Nauwlijks eerst een duimke diepe,
  nieuw geboren onder 't zand,
worden z'haast een zelver striepken
  half zoo breed als heel mijn hand:
rimpel-dimpel-donkel-dansend,
uit ende in malkaar gekranseld,
  nu alhier en dan aldaar,
  loopen ze... ai 'k en weet nie' waar.
