Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG FRE
Wie liegt im Mondenlichte
Vergraben nun die Welt;
Wie selig ist der Friede,
Der sie umfangen hält!

Die Winde müssen schweigen,
So sanft ist dieser Schein;
Sie säuseln nur und weben
Und schlafen endlich ein.

Und was in Tagesgluten
Zur Blüte nicht erwacht,
Es öffnet seine Kelche
Und duftet in die Nacht.

Wie bin ich solchen Friedens
Seit lange nicht gewohnt!
Sei du in meinem Leben
Der liebevolle Mond!

Note: in the Wallnöfer autograph there is a typo in stanza 4, line 3, word 3 ("Seit" instead of "Sei")

La lumière de la lune
 (Sung text translation for setting by A. Wallnöfer)
 See original
Language: French (Français)  after the German (Deutsch)
Maintenant, sous la lumière de la lune
Le monde est comme enseveli ;
Bienheureuse est la paix
Qui le tient embrassé.

Les vents ne peuvent que se taire
Tant est délicate cette lumière ;
Ils bruissent seulement, puis s'éveillent
Et finalement s'endorment.

Et ce qui dans l'ardeur du jour
Ne s'est ni éveillé ni éclos,
Ouvre son calice
Et parfume la nuit.

Cela fait si longtemps
Qu'une telle paix ne m'a habité !
Sois dans ma vie
La lune emplie d'amour !
