Het jonge jaar
(Sung text for setting by A. Verhoeven)
 See original
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)
Wat is 't, dat blijde en blondgehaard
verschijnsel, dat, in 't groen getooid,
met lichten terd voorbij mij vaart
en looveren langs de lanen strooit?

Wie helpt er 't lieve lentekruid,
dat wegzit en verdoken al,
ten boomgaarde en ter gersvodde uit,
op 't hooge veld, in 't leege dal?

Wie is 't, die uit den akker haalt
't gepriemel van de koorenaar,
die wakker wordt en zegepraalt?
Wie is 't? Wie is 't? Het jonge jaar.
Spelling changes used by Verhoeven: boomgaarde -> boomgaard ; gersvodde -> grasvodde ; koorenaar -> korenaar; wordt -> word
