Der Todtengräber
(Sung text for setting by P. Lindpaintner)
 Matches original text
Language: German (Deutsch)
Ich hatte braune Haare
Und liebt' ein junges Blut,
Wir waren lange Jahre
Einander herzlich gut.

Es kam ein Frühlingsmorgen,
Da schlief das Liebchen ein.
Was schläfst so lang verborgen
In deinem Kämmerlein?

Ich bin nun weiß von Haaren,
Grab auf ein altes Grab,
Davon ich nie erfahren,
Wer drin begraben lag.

Und tiefer, tiefer grabe
Ich grabe alles aus;
Ich glaube gar, ich grabe
Die alte Lieb heraus!
Note: the modernized spelling of "Der Todtengräber" would be "Der Totengräber"
