Herbstgedanke
(Sung text for setting by Max Emanuel)
 See original
Language: German (Deutsch)
Vorüber der Mai, die wonnige Zeit,
Vorbei das blühende Glück!
Und von der entschwundenen Herrlichkeit
Was blieb Dir im Herzen zurück?

Dir zog aus Blüten und Sonnenschein,
Aus Blumen und Vogelgesang
Ins Herze die junge Liebe hinein,
Die all diesen Jubel durchdrang?

D'rum fühlst Du, ob außen das Glück vorbei,
Ob Blatt und Blüten entschwebt,
D'rum fühlst du, dass die Blume des Mai
Allewig jetzt in dir lebt?

Set to music by Max Emanuel, Herzog in Bayern , "Herbstgedanke", op. 3 (Drei Lieder für 1 mittlere Stimme mit Pianoforte) no. 3, published 1881 [ medium voice and piano ], München, Schmid & Janke
