Wann sich von des Mittagshöhen
   Schon die Sonne neigt zur Nacht,
Bleibt so mancher Lenz noch stehen,
   Sieht uns freundlich an und lacht,
Blickt dann auf entlaubte Bäume,
   Neigt sein holdes Angesicht --
Schenken kann er nur noch Träume,
   Hoffnungsschwingen gibt er nicht.
