Serenade eines Eifersüchtigen
See original
Language: German (Deutsch)
Schläfst Du schon? Mein Liebchen
Morpheus senke sanfte Ruhe nieder
Auf die geschlossenen Augenlieder sic!
Ich breite die Arme zum Sternenzelt:
Schläfst Du, mein Mädchen, so schläft ja die Welt.
Doch der Mond ist so bleich, scheint so betrübt;
In frohe Paradieses-Wonne schaukeln.
Der neue Tag juble Dir entgegen,
Bringe Dir der Treue reichsten Segen!
Ich sende Gebete zum Sternenzelt:
Schläfst Du, mein Mädchen, so schläft ja die Welt;
Doch der blasse Geselle wirft seinen Schein
Gerade zu Dir ins Fenster hinein,
Schläfst Du gewiß? -- Ruhe in Frieden!
Tröstender Schlaf, Himmel hienieden!

Are you already sleeping? My darling
May Morpheus drop gentle rest
Upon your closed eyelids!
I spread my arms out to the canopy of the stars:
When you are sleeping, my maiden, the whole world sleeps.
But the moon is so pale, seems so downcast;
I am jealous, I believe that even he loves you,
The stars are pale, they sparkle so lifelessly:
Comforting paleness, love is red!
Are you already sleeping, my darling?
May sweet dreams flutter about you,
Rocking you into the happy bliss of paradise.
I direct my gaze to the canopy of the stars:
When you are sleeping, my darling, the whole world sleeps.
But what do I see! Along the aether the breezy realm
Of the cloud is becoming more red,
The heavenly realm is yearning for you:
Comforting redness, longing is pale!
Are you already sleeping, my darling? --
May the new day greet you rejoicingly,
May it bring you the richest blessing of faithfulness!
I send prayers to the canopy of the stars:
When you are sleeping, my maiden, the whole world sleeps.
But the pale companion casts his beams
Directly onto you through your window,
Are you definitely sleeping? -- Rest in peace!
Comforting sleep, heaven here on earth!
